September, 2002
The Board of Directors net at the MDA Building in Jefferson City on September
16th for a meeting. President Kris Knolph, Executive Director Leann
Mertens, Bryan Foote, Roche Stonner, Ed Stevens, xxxx , and George Bailey were
there. Trustee Bill Jolly was absent so there was no Trustee's
report. The treasury shows total moneys at the highest level in some time,
so it was decided to increase our savings portion of this to earn more income
for the Society. We now have over Five Thousand Dollars in the Foundation
for scholarships.
The Spring Golf and Learn for the CDS was cancelled due to poor interest so
it was decided to to try again in the Spring at the Lake of the Ozarks.
Look here for more details later.
The Spring meeting was discussed. It will be at Compass Point Resort on
the Lake of the Ozarks. This will be a staff oriented meetinf so plan
accordingly. We will have a third Board meeting before the Spring Meeting
to Iron out some details about the Foundations Scholarship credentials.
Also, remember we will elect a new Trustee in the Spring so begin to think about
this and Contact LeAnn for details.
Two resolutions for the November House of Delegates meeting were discussed
and will be sent to the MDA for inclusion in the meeting.
April, 2002
The Board of Directors of the Central Dental Society met for their quarterly
meeting April First, in the MDA Building in Jefferson City. Present were
Executive Director LeAnn Mertens, President Kris Nolph, Harold Hombs, Bruce
Ringdahl, Jim Spring, and George Bailey. Discussion proceeded on the
possibility of having a Spring CE and golf meeting, possibly to coincide with
the MDA 'Day at the Game'. The meeting would be on the Friday preceding
that activity with at least three hours of credit offered. The
treasurer's report showed approximate 23,000 dollars in the account with over
7000 dollars in the foundation. It was noted we still had some
outstanding bills from the Spring Meeting. No Trustee's report was
given. With no new business the meeting adjourned.
February, 2002
The annual meeting of the Central Dental Society was held in the Alumni
Center at the University of Missouri in Columbia on March First. Dr Samuel
Lowe spoke on Treatment of the Periodontal Patient. The annual business
meeting followed where officers were elected for the coming year. Dr. Bill
Jolly, our Trustee spoke about the MDA's proposed change to policy governance.
November, 2001
Several members of Central spent November 2nd and 3rd at the MDA House of
Delegates at the Capitol Plaza Hotel in Jefferson City. See the link at
left for more details.
October, 2001
The Board of Directors of the Central Dental Society met
October 9th at the MDA Building in Jefferson City.
President Roche Stonner called the meeting to order at
6:30 with Doctors Foote, Standlee, Nolph, Jolly, Ringdahl,
Bailey, Stephens, and Executive Director Mertens present. Treasurer's report found our Society holding its own with
reserves of over twelve thousand dollars in the bank.
Approximately two hundreds fifty dollars in interest had been
earned in the last year. The Society has taken control of
our foundation's funds; and that account currently earmarked
for a hygiene scholarship, amounts to almost seven thousand
dollars. Our Trustee, Bill Jolly has been waylaid by the surgeon and
reports he has more to do, (By the way, exactly how many
cervical vertebrae do you have?) so the Board decided JC
Standlee will represent Central at the next Trustee's
meeting in November. Bill did report that our new MDA Building
is well on the way to fruition. He also reported on the first
aspects of Policy Governance. This issue is discussed more
fully in the Trustee's report on this web. Executive Director LeAnn Mertens discussed the Spring meeting,
and the final plans for this. Please check out the information
on this web. Since it involves Team Periodontics, she suggested
we invite hygienists from the area to attend, so some of you
may want to do that. Leann also discussed our 2003 meeting.
She asked the Board's opinion on alternate meeting sites to the MU
Alumni Center. One possibility is at the Lake and will be
investigated more fully in the future. Con-Ed director JC
Standlee informed the Board that they are looking for an
informational meeting in 2003 concerning HIPPA, and this will be
placed here on the web when plans are finalized. Leann
discussed obtaining sponsorship for future speakers from
corporate sources. When this is finalized, we will carry info
here as to who they are, as well as telling you where you my
visit their booths at future meetings. Leann also wants to
remind you that she has worked hard to develop a database of
sources at ADA and elsewhere to help you with your problems.
She asks you to mail her if you have a specific need.
President Roche Stonner discussed the resolutions that the
Central delegates will be acting on at the MDA Meeting in
November. These are available on MDA web (see link) as well
as from the MDA. Please discuss with Roche, Leann or one of
the directors if you have opinions as to how these resolutions
should be disposed.
June, 2001
The Board of Directors held a business meeting at the MDA Building in
Jefferson City.
April, 2001 Legislative Day
April Fourth, a small contingent of Central Dental Society members
visited the Capitol in Jefferson City to visit with our legislators. They
were joined by MDA members from all across the state. The activities
kicked off at 1:00 with an informational meeting at the Capitol Plaza
hotel. We were addressed by MDA Executive director Dr. Jake Lippert who
brought us up to date on current issues in our legislature. CDS members
present were President Roche Stonner, President-Elect Kris Nolph, Fred Christman,
Natalie Tungsvik, JC Standlee, George Bailey, Alliance President Linda Bailey,
and Executive Director Leann Mertens.
After visiting the Capitol, the group met informally with Legislators as the
MDA hosted a dinner back at the Capitol Plaza Hotel. More information is
available at the MDA's web site (see links). Please make plans to join JC
in J. C. about this time next year. (I will post the date as soon as it is
finalized.)
March, 2001
March Second, the annual business meeting was held following the annual
education session sponsored by CDS. Retiring Secretary Fred Christman
reported that the Society is on firm ground financially and presented new
Secretary Eric Wilson with the responsibility to 'keep it that way'. New
Executive Director LeAnn Mertens informed the membership of her plans for the
coming year. Trustee Bill Jolly was unable to attend but his report is
available on this Web. Ira Davis was introduced from the Well Being Program of
the Missouri Dental Board. He reminded the membership present that he was
there to help with anything that may involve this consideration. Harold Hombs
gave a short discussion and presented materials to those present on Direct
Reimbursement from his MDA Committee.
The election of officers was held, and President Roche Stonner was chosen to
lead CDS into the new year. The remaining slate of officers elected may be
viewed in the Officers Section of this web.
The Delegates and Alternates chosen for the Fall House of Delegates meeting
were: Drs' Jim Spring, Harold Hombs, Fred Christman, Kris Nolph, George Bailey,
Chuck Hatley, Roger Simmons, Roche Stonner, Ed Stevens, and JC Standlee.
Retiring President George Bailey punctuated his tenure with a note of hope
that the Society will be able to involve more of her membership actively. He was
then presented a commemorative plaque by Continuing Education Director JC
Standlee.
January, 2001
The Board of Directors met January 10th at the MDA Building to
meet new Executive Director LeAnn Mertens. We had
almost a complete turnout of elected officers. Fred Christman informed us
that he and LeAnn were in the final stages of completing the financial analysis
and transition of CDS. He will forward a summary to all officers at his
earliest convenience. JC Standlee, Program Director, announced tentative
speakers for the 2002 and 2003 meetings. These will be posted here as
soon as they are finalized. We have been losing some money on our
meetings lately, so please attend if at all possible. We discussed
tentative meeting sights besides Columbia, and The Lake was proposed.
Please give feedback to your directors on this.
The new Web Site was discussed. We did ask our XO to see about
possible donations from commercial dental enterprises to help defray the
$200-$300 annual cost. It was felt that if we did receive a donation we would
be appreciative enough to place a hyperlink in our 'LINKS' section.
Please check these from time to time to thank our supporters.
Trustee Bill Jolly brought his report on the goings on at the MDA Board. He
reminded us of the need for volunteers to aid the ADA meeting in KC. Please
contact MDA if you are so inclined. He also asked for volunteers for Dental
Board denture complaints. Please contact Guy Deaton or MDA if you are so
inclined here too. He brought up the need for spokespeople and the
training involved. The current designates for CDS are Chuck Hatley, Bill
Moorkamp, and JC Standlee. If you are interested for next year (2001-02) contact
Roche Stonner. *See MDA Web Site for complete rundown.
President George Bailey proposed to the Board the establishment of a CDS
Stategic Planning Committee to help plan the direction of CDS for the
future. The Chair is Ralph Stonner from Tipton. If you are
interested in this, please call him. He will present the first report at
the Spring Meeting.
Jim Spring was unable to attend, but we briefly reminded everyone of his
Disabled Dentist Help Line. If you can help someone in your area or know
of someone needing help with covering a practice, please call Jim or LeAnn.
We will be updating our e-mail lists so check back soon for the
updates. Please send yours to me here, and I will post it for all.
There are a lot of 'if you are interested's' here...please be interested.
We need your help!
