On November 2nd and 3rd, several members of you Central Dental Society served as members of the MDA House of Delegates meeting.  Drs. Harold Hombs, Jim Spring, Ed Stevens, George Bailey, and President Roche Stonner worked to help determine future policy for the MDA, and perhaps more importantly, position the MDA to better serve her members in the years ahead.  As always, our Executive Director LeAnn Mertens was present of help the Central Delegates be as informed and efficient as possible.  President-elect Kris Nolph and Fred Christman were also present to lend their support.

Acting Trustee JC Standlee also did an admirable job of serving as the Greater Missouri Caucus Chairman, as he has for several years now.

Ed Stevens, Roche Stonner, and Jim Spring worked hard on their respective committees as the prepared the resolutions for vote and helped to interpret testimony on some somewhat controversial resolutions.  The CDS proposed resolution on accepting insurance company monetary support was defeated in House voting.

The resolution on investigating the changing the MDA style of government to that of Policy Governance won approval from the House and will be taken up by the House in 2002.  Also of note, the House voted to spend monies on preventive education,  especially on  the increasing problem of soda consumption in our public schools.

Roche, Ed, Jim and Harold vote on an issue before the House.

ADA President-Elect Dr. Howard Jones was present to speak to the House  on the issues he felt were most important.  Provider and staff shortages, third party control, freedom of movement for dentists, water and mercury problems and 'Access to Care' were addressed.  ADA District Trustee, Dr. William Powell was present.  Retiring President Dr. Norb Hartenbach addressed the group, as did New President Dr. Dan Haney from Joplin.  Central's own Anna Lippert, MDA Alliance President, spoke on the Alliance work and need for membership.  Drs. Guy Deaton and Larry Jackson spoke to Missouri Dental Board issues.

The 2001 House concluded with a note of optimism on the MDA's future.  Feel free to contact your delegates for more complete information on their work at the meeting.  The MDA web site has more details on the complete meeting and the disposition of the resolutions.
